General Statement of Duties

The Career Development Facilitator provides guidance and support to high school students as they pursue their postsecondary goals—enrollment, enlistment, or employment—within their chosen career pathways. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of current workforce trends, and the ability to design and deliver both group workshops and individualized support. Key responsibilities include assisting students with resume development, interview preparation, work-based learning opportunities, and the development of durable (soft) skills. The Career Development Facilitator evaluates the needs of students at the ACE (Advanced Career Education) Centers at Virginia Randolph and Hermitage and develops targeted plans to help them achieve their career goals.   


Essential Duties

The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.


Professional Expectations:

  • Assist ACE Center students in developing career plans and strategies to be #LifeReady
  • Develop and facilitate career development workshops for students and staff
  • Train participants in career search techniques such as resume writing and interviewing
  • Work closely with the WBL Coordinators to encourage and advise student participation in work-based learning opportunities.
  • Provide guidance on the components and VDOE requirements of a work-based learning program
  • Advise students on career opportunities and job listings related to their ACE Center program
  • Work with ACE Center school counselor to ensure all students have a plan to be enrolled, enlisted, and/or employed upon graduation
  • Include student self-knowledge exploration and planning.
  • Assist with setting up and maintain WBL Board on Major Clarity, tracking student applications and progress
  • Assist with ensuring all WBL experiences are documented and reported at the end of the school year
  • Other duties as assigned 


Additional Information
  • This position is a 12-months, 260 days assignment. 
  • This position is for the 2026–2027 school year, with a contractual start date of July 1, 2026.
  • Annual salary will be prorated based upon the work begin date

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible to receive for a VDOE with a teaching or school counseling endorsement 
  • A minimum Master's degree in education or related field  
  • Work experience in a related Work-Based Learning field, CTE education or career counseling
  • Strong computer skills to develop and utilize spreadsheets, student and employer databases, and Major Clarity


Preferred and Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of technical, career, transition, and college opportunities
  • Be knowledgeable about careers and job-experience placements, and/or have career counseling experience
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Understanding of the components and requirements of a work-based learning program
  • Proficiency in Schoolinks, Microsoft Outlook, Google docs
  • Effective problem-solve skills with in the team setting
  • Establish and maintain a presence in the ACE Center by promoting work-based learning opportunities and #LifeReady skills in preparing students for their future careers
