General Statement of Duties
The purpose of this position is to prepare high school students for careers in dental care and related medical fields through classroom instruction and work-based learning opportunities, including clinicals, internships, and externships with local dental facilities and businesses. The CTE Dental Assistant instructor will deliver a comprehensive dental curriculum, facilitate hands-on and workplace learning experiences, prepare students for industry certification, and assess and support student progress. Additionally, the instructor will ensure compliance with applicable regulations, promote leadership development through CTSO involvement, and maintain current professional credentials and expertise in the field.
Career & Technical Education Duties and Expectations
- Plans, delivers, and assesses instruction using a competency‑based education model.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, and industry trends.
- Maintains a working knowledge of current industry safety standards and ensures their incorporation into instruction.
- Supports and promotes student participation in internships and apprenticeships with local employers.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with stakeholders to support the program’s national and state accreditation while remaining current with evolving dental techniques, regulations, and technology.
- Reports to work on time in accordance with the designated employee contract calendar.
- Teaches core units in dental assisting, including medical emergencies, coronal polishing, oral pathology, dental radiology, nutrition, Schedule IV drugs/pharmacology, and advanced laboratory techniques.
- Assesses student performance through practical exams, lab skill evaluations, written assignments, and clinical competency assessments.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA standards and dental board regulations, including infection control and other legal requirements.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend work daily and fulfill all assigned responsibilities.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to refine instructional practice.
- Maintain accurate records, including grades, attendance, and required documentation.
- Uphold all school and district policies, including professional and ethical standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This is an 11 month or 239-day teaching assignment. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year with a July 30, 2026, start date.
Minimum annual starting salary will be $68,227.

Minimum Requirements
- Holds a current Board of Dentistry (BOD) license as a dentist or possesses a dental hygienist certification; national certification is also accepted.
- Has at least two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) occupational experience within the past five years in the relevant teaching specialty.
- Holds a health occupations teaching certificate or an associate degree in the teaching specialty being sought.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
