General Statement of Duties
Assists Maintenance Supervisor in coordinating assigned operating maintenance and repair activities of the school plant facility. Assists Maintenance Supervisor to insure that equipment and systems related to the plant are operating appropriately, or are repaired
• Assists in performing scheduled inspections of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
• Assists in inspecting the custodial care program daily
• Assists in verifying proper operation of security systems, alarms, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, etc.
• Assists in performing or directing performance of preventive maintenance
• Assists in performing or directing performance of ice and snow removal programs as well as outside ground maintenance and grass cutting
• Assists in operating mechanical systems such as heaters, boilers, pumps, etc.
• Performs or directs routine maintenance functions such as replacing light bulbs, toilet fixtures, glass, repairs to doors and furniture
• Replaces belts, fans, filters, and other items on installed equipment
• Performs “touch-up” painting
• Performs overtime work on scheduled, unscheduled, routine or emergency basis, as assigned
• Self auditing safety practices and assist in supervision of employees in safety awareness and procedures
• Performs record keeping, supply ordering, and work scheduling duties in the absence of or as requested by the Maintenance Supervisor
• Attends work daily and be engaged in job responsibilities
• Performs other duties as assigned
Attend work daily and be on task - regular attendance is required
Skilled knowledge of the operating, maintenance and repair functions of a large physical plant and grounds keeping activities. Skilled knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Demonstrates a basic knowledge of methods, tools and materials used in the area of assignment. The position requires performance of routine installation, preventive maintenance and repair tasks independently and with minimum supervision. Ability to follow oral and written directions, to keep records, work well with others and occasionally supervise the daily activities of workers. When assigned responsibility, must be available to respond to emergency calls outside of work hours.
This vacancy is open until filled. This is a 12 month, 8 hours per day, 260-day position. Minimum salary is $42,284.84 or based on promotion policy for internal candidates. Salary is prorated based on start date.

Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or trade school and training in related fields such as electricity, controls, refrigeration, etc.; or any equivalent combination of experience and training would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A minimum of two years’ experience as a Maintenance Helper, preferably. Possession of a valid operator’s license issued by the State of Virginia (Commercial Driver’s License required - minimum Class B required for elementary school zones).
