General Statement of Duties

Ability to plan, organize and deliver instruction to meet individual and group needs utilizing state guidelines and division curriculum.  Exhibits considerable knowledge of learning theory and best practices. Acts in the best interests of students and models appropriate behaviors in all professional interactions.

Essential Duties

Provide instruction to high potential and identified gifted students through lessons and units developed around gifted program goals including: critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, inquiry and research, communication, collaboration, leadership, global citizenship, and self-awareness. 


Design and deliver response lessons and whole class lessons to spark critical and creative thinking in all students in all classrooms. 


Provide resource support to teachers of advanced students through planning, modeling, and co-teaching differentiated lessons and engaging activities.


Plan, model, and co-teach differentiated instruction in cluster- grouped classrooms and support staff in the implementation of the cluster group model.


Coordinate and implement the gifted identification process with administrators, principals, school counselors, teachers, parent/guardian(s), and students as outlined in the Gifted Identification Procedure Manual.


Plan daily instruction for all students, demonstrating knowledge of subject matter and using state Standards of Learning and the curriculum of the district


Use current school and division data to plan instruction


Develop formative and summative assessments, using multiple tools to assess student learning on an ongoing basis, and tailor instruction to meet group and individual needs


Maintain order within the classroom and school with proactive classroom management and a well-organized learning environment


Maintain records of student performance and attendance, and communicate this effectively with students and their parent/guardian(s)


Select and use a variety of instructional materials to stimulate learning and meet the needs of all students


Support academic extension and academic activities at assigned schools 


Communicate and coordinate instruction with other staff (special ed, gifted, remediation staff, volunteers, etc.) relative to student learning


Support students in their social and emotional learning and educate staff about the unique SEL needs of advanced and gifted students


Deliver professional development focused on equity, cultural competence, and talent development to effectively support and nurture the diverse talents of all gifted students


Maintain professional manner when interacting with students, parent/guardian(s), staff, community agencies and colleagues


Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning


Develop curricular resources supporting instruction for advanced classes in grades K-5


Plan and implement professional development activities in grades K-5


Performs other duties as assigned

Additional Information

This position a 0.5 role - split between Baker Elementary (2 days) and Ward Elementary (1/2 a day) for a total of 2.5 days.  Baker Elementary School is the home school.         

Position is a 209-day position.

Annual salary will be prorated based upon actual work begin date.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree with emphasis in an educational subject area. 

A valid professional teaching certificate is required with an endorsement in Gifted Education (OR agreement to enroll in Gifted endorsement courses).
