General Statement of Duties
Henrico County Public Schools is offering an internship opportunity for students to develop skills and experience relevant to their course of study. We are committed to creating challenging, meaningful, relevant work experiences for students. This internship will have specific learning goals identified by the student as being core to their academic and career development. - Preparation and completion of the annual Space Utilization study conducted at each school, including reviewing submitted documentation, calculating seat allocations based on VDOE recommended standards, and calculating base functional capacity for the school year.
- Preparation and completion of the annual school enrollment survey.
- Preparation and analysis of SY2027-28 enrollment projections.
- Specific tasks may include the following:
- Participation in site visits to schools to discuss space utilization, programming, and determining needs within the buildings.
- Developing and maintaining documentation and records of residential development and its impacts on the Division.
- Review and processing of rezoning, provisional use permit, and subdivision applications and their impacts on student yield estimations.
- Developing and maintaining interactive mapping applications to view planned and proposed residential development throughout the Division.
- Developing and maintaining databases of information related to school enrollment.
- Preparation of maps and other graphics for reports, presentations, and informational brochures, and other discussions.
- Assist in the development of the annual Capital Improvement Plan.
- Update and draft procedural documentation for new and existing processes undertaken by the School Planning Office.
- Analyze enrollment trends at the Division wide, school level, and individual school scopes and the relationship to demographic trend shifts.
- Review and collaborate on the development of long-range planning within the Division and projecting impacts of capital projects.
- Collaborating and working with other staff on various projects and programs.
- Using GIS and other tools for data analysis, mapping, and presentation graphics.
- Regular attendance is required
- Other duties as assigned
Work Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm are core hours. Internship hours may vary. Interns could be scheduled to work up to 29 hours per week based on the assignment and the intern's availability. All internships are limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week.

The selected student should have knowledge of planning and residential development principles and the ability to read and interpret plans and regulatory requirements. The student must have the ability to review, analyze and comprehend data and summarize in writing. In addition, proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Word is necessary. Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities include proficiency with ArcGIS Online for mapping and data analysis and excellent analytical skills. The position requires the ability to interact well with others as a co-worker and as a representative of Henrico County Public Schools.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Pursuing a graduate (master's) degree or undergraduate degree in a field relevant to internship; GPA of 3.0 or better;
Experience: Enrolled in a college-level program in relevant degree program; relevant job, volunteer or previous internship experience;
Or: Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the internship.
Preferred Program/Area of Study: Urban and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Urban Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment (including as an intern).
