General Statement of Duties

The successful candidate will teach students the foundational principles of advanced manufacturing, automation, and robotics through the integration of mechanical, electrical, fluid power, and software systems. The instructor will provide hands-on laboratory instruction in programming controllers, operating motors and actuators, and utilizing advanced manufacturing technologies, including 3D printing. Key responsibilities include maintaining a safe laboratory environment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and preparing students to earn industry-recognized certifications. By combining engineering theory with practical application, the instructor will develop students’ technical skills and problem-solving abilities, preparing them for careers in modern automated industries and continued postsecondary technical education.

Essential Duties

Career & Technical Education Duties and Expectations   

  • Plans, delivers, and assesses instruction using a competency‑based education model.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, and industry trends.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current industry safety standards and ensures their incorporation into instruction.
  • Supports and promotes student participation in internships and apprenticeships with local employers.


The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Professional Expectations:  

  • Plans daily instructional activities for secondary students, demonstrating knowledge of subject matter in Mechatronics and Industrial Robotics as outlined in the VDOE competencies and the curriculum of the district
  • Uses current school and division data to plan instruction
  • Develops formative and summative tests, using multiple tools to assess student learning on an ongoing basis, and alters instruction to meet group and individual needs
  • Maintains order within the classroom and school with proactive classroom management and a well-organized learning environment
  • Maintains records of student performance and attendance, and communicates this effectively with students and their parents
  • Selects, requisitions, and uses a variety of instructional materials to stimulate learning and meet the needs of all students
  • Communicates and coordinates instruction with other staff (special ed, gifted, remediation staff, etc.) relative to student learning
  • Stays abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction and effective schools
  • Maintains professional manner when interacting with students, parents, patrons, community agencies and colleagues
  • Sponsor an active student organization, Technology Student Association (TSA), and support student participate in competitions
  • Incorporates and models appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Additional Information

This is a 11-month (239-day) position with a contractual start date of July 30, 2026. 

Salary will be prorated based on the official start date.

Minimum Requirements

  • Endorsement in Technology Education, or eligible for a provisional teaching license. 
  • Eligibility would include holding a Bachelor’s degree and passing of the Technology & Engineering Education Praxis.
  • CDL license preferred or willingness to obtain.
