General Statement of Duties
Provides high quality instruction in the Veterinary Assistant curriculum for high school juniors and seniors at the Advanced Career Education (ACE) Center at Hermitage. Builds and maintains partnerships with area veterinarians to provide hands on, practical experience in small animal care, enhancing and reinforcing classroom instruction.
Instruction & Planning
- Develop and deliver daily lesson plans aligned with state and district standards.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Implement differentiated instruction, accommodations, and modifications to support all learners.
- Integrate technology and innovative practices into teaching to enhance student engagement.
Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior and learning.
- Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Manage classroom routines to ensure safety, orderliness, and instructional time
Assessment & Data Use
- Design formative and summative assessments to measure student learning.
- Analyze data to monitor progress, adjust instruction, and support student achievement.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and parents.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate regularly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in department meetings, team planning, and school initiatives.
- Collaborate with special education staff, counselors, and support personnel as needed.
Career & Technical Education Duties and Expectations
- Plans, delivers, and assesses instruction using a competency‑based education model.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, and industry trends.
- Maintains a working knowledge of current industry safety standards and ensures their incorporation into instruction.
- Supports and promotes student participation in internships and apprenticeships with local employers.
- Serves as an advisor for HOSA
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend work daily and fulfill all assigned responsibilities.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to refine instructional practice.
- Maintain accurate records, including grades, attendance, and required documentation.
- Uphold all school and district policies, including professional and ethical standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- The minimum salary for this position is $68,227.
- This is a 239-day or 11-month assignment with a start date of July 30, 2026. Annual salaries are prorated based upon the official work start date.

Minimum Requirements
- VDOE Technical Professional License with an Endorsement as a Veterinary Aide Instructor
- Candidates with an associate's degree in veterinary science, a BS in Biology, or a BS in Agriculture, along with a minimum of two years of work experience in veterinary science, are encouraged to apply.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
