General Statement of Duties
The employee in this position maintains continuous awareness of routes, trip, vehicle assignments and all other aspects of daily operation of the transportation program. Maintains continuous communication with bus drivers using a two-way radio.
- Maintains a log of incidents related to school bus operations as reported by bus drivers via a two-way bus radio
- Operates a school board vehicle on a scheduled route when necessary
- Performs all duties of school bus driver when necessary
- Participates in planning and directing the daily activities of the pupil transportation program
- Maintains computerized records and files related to the transportation program
- Maintains records of bus status and state of repair
- Works collaboratively with area office staff to record assignments of spare or substitute buses to drivers
- Answers questions and records actions
- Effectively communicate with schools and other outside agencies on issues related to the transportation program
- Answers telephone calls and directs to the appropriate staff member
- Responds to emergency telephone requests as appropriate, referring to the Transportation Supervisor as needed
- Operates the base station for the two-way radio communication on vehicles assigned to the Department of Pupil Transportation
- Gives clear and concise directions to drivers over the two-way radio
- Prepare reports as necessary
- Performs related work as assigned
This is a full-time, 239-day contract - 8 hour/day position located in Zone 1. Work hours are 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m
Annual salary will be prorated based upon actual work begin date.

Minimum Requirements
Thorough knowledge of pupil transportation operations, routes, state and local bus operation laws and regulations, and county geography is preferred but not required. Considerable knowledge of safe and defensive driving methods and procedures. Considerable organizational and problem-solving skills. Requires hands-on familiarity with computer operations, keyboard procedures and basic programming. Ability to work effectively with employees, students, parents and staff. Ability to effectively operate and communicate using a two-way radio. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate ideas and directives both orally and in writing. Ability to read a map. Ability to plan, organize and work well under stressful conditions. Must be able to obtain a CDL license with all proper endorsements to be able to operate a school bus within 90-days of initial hire.
