General Statement of Duties
Develops, plans, leads, and/or supervises the administration of specialized recreational, interpretative, or educational programs and related activities in assigned locations; coordinates logistics and resources; ensures compliance with safety standards; performs other duties as assigned.
The Recreation Coordinator I – Center Programming is responsible for planning, facilitating, and supervising a variety of general recreation programs for participants of all ages, ensuring activities are safe, well-organized, and enjoyable. Programs are typically offered at an assigned facility but may also take place at multiple venues, including camps, parks, and other recreational centers. This position focuses on creating engaging, inclusive, and community-oriented activities that promote wellness, creativity, and connection. Strong organizational skills, creativity in program planning, flexibility, and the ability to maintain accurate records, reports, and surveys are essential as the role supports diverse age groups and program needs. The Recreation Coordinator I works closely with fellow coordinators to design high-quality programs, manage and monitor budgets, optimize business practices, schedule contract staff, and enhance overall program operations while providing outstanding customer service to participants, families, and community partners. Overall, this entry-level position plays a vital role in delivering exceptional recreation experiences and advancing the mission of the department.

- Identifies programming needs and interests to ensure programming is fresh, relevant, serving the community's interests and needs.
- Ability to effectively brainstorm, plan, and implement recreation programs in multiple areas in a team environment
- Good knowledge and understanding of the special needs and interests of the segment of the population/community served by the assigned program area
- The ability to work collaboratively with coworkers to plan and implement programs
- Financial skills related to maintaining budgetary controls and managing program costs within approved budget
- Establish productive relationships and work effectively in the community to include but not limited to public/private organizations, businesses, civic/volunteer groups, and general public
- Ability to cooperate with and effectively work with public and private organizations and business, civic and volunteer groups as well as the general citizenry
- Ability to work independently without close supervision or guidance
- Effective oral and written communications skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records and generate reports as needed
- Technological literacy related to utilizing Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, and Teams. Along with the ability to learn and successfully utilize specialized recreation software
- Provide program coverage as needed, working flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- Collaborate with community groups, agencies, and stakeholders to coordinate and enhance program offerings.

- First Aid, CPR, AED and other fitness and department specific certifications may be required
- Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs. as needed to move supplies and equipment
- Requires valid driver's license

Minimum Requirements
Four (4) year degree in recreation or other field relevant to assignment and some relevant work experience preferred; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
