General Statement of Duties
Performs supervisory duties in planning and directing a group of Social Workers or Employment Services Workers; does related work as required.
Henrico County Department of Social Services is hiring a Casework Supervisor to lead our permanency programs team. You will oversee foster care, adoptions, Fostering Futures, kinship navigation, and Title IV-e services - the full continuum of support for children and families working toward permanency. Your leadership doesn't just manage caseloads - it shapes outcomes for Henrico's most vulnerable residents, one family at a time.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Supervise and develop staff across foster care, adoptions, and Fostering Futures - including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management
- Review case documentation for accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local policy
- Assign caseloads and review and approve service plans, case assessments, and required reports
- Represent the department in court, family partnership meetings, VEMATs, FAPT, and child and family team meetings
- Oversee grant activities tied to Title IV-e, Respite, Independent Living, and Education and Training Vouchers
- Track program data to evaluate outcomes and identify gaps in service delivery
- Provide on-call supervisory coverage for child welfare and APS staff
- Contribute to department leadership, strategic planning, and best practice initiatives
- Support foster parent recruitment and community engagement events as needed
WHAT YOU BRING
- Solid grounding in social work practice - including family systems, substance abuse, mental health, and child welfare
- Experience supervising staff in a child welfare or human services setting
- Working knowledge of foster care, adoption, KINGAP, adoption subsidy, and kinship programs
- A trauma-informed lens - and the ability to bring that perspective to both clients and staff
- Strong instincts for staff development, documentation compliance, and service quality
Candidates for specified position may be required to hold or be qualified to work toward licensure or accreditation in the appropriate discipline.

Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in a related field (e.g., sociology, psychology, behavioral science), and two (2) years of social work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
