General Statement of Duties

Case Management Technician Intern II - This is an internship for academic credit for the fall of 2026 for current college students who are enrolled in a program that requires or allows for an internship that is for academic credit. If you cannot earn academic credit, you are not eligible for this position.

End Date: End of the semester or when the student has met their programs' requirements,
Work Hours: Monday - Thursday, up to 7 hours each day depending on student schedule. We remain flexible.

This is an internship position for college students who will work with Community Corrections to perform administrative and technical work in support of probation services staff in the Community Corrections Program; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

Examples of work:

  • Supports Officers by filing paperwork, entering data in automated database, contacting providers and meeting with clients as needed;
  • Monitors low risk/need clients' progress with court ordered conditions;

Assists with: 

  • The intake process for defendants/offenders placed by the Court; 
  • Making referrals to community service and treatment providers, and receiving, accepting and assigning transfer cases from other programs;
  • Case reviews and closures;
  • Directly observes and tests clients for alcohol and illegal substances;
  • Collects and processes fee payments and generates receipts;
  • Accesses the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) database (upon certification) to process criminal history requests;
  • Enters documentation on each client in automated database and files paperwork in hardcopy file;
  • Writes reports to the Court regarding client's status;
  • Captures and enters data on Excel Spreadsheets; Provides back-up clerical support as needed;
  • Processes court sensitive information expeditiously and accurately disseminates information imparted from customers;
  • Regular and reliable work attendance;
  • Performs related work as assigned; flexible work schedule to meet department needs.

To be successful in this role the student must have:

  • Regular and reliable work attendance 
  • Interest to promote public safety and  administer community based corrections programs to rehabilitate individuals through supervision, treatment, education in a structured setting to promote long lasting public safety.


Internships are intended to provide the intern with basic experiential exposure to a field of interest. The intern must bring a strong interest in the assigned department's mission and operations and be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment. 

The intern will receive training relevant to the assigned responsibilities and finish the internship having gained basic experience in various aspects of the operations of the assigned department as well as basic skills and industry knowledge. Internships may include extensive public contact. Internships may be an integral part of a team or may require the intern to work more independently. The intern will also learn how to work in a professional environment and have opportunities to network with department leaders and other professionals in the internship field.

Interns are not entitled to a permanent position at the completion of an internship. The internship is designed to benefit the intern with the knowledge and skills gained through experiences provided during the internship.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Pursuing a college degree in a field relevant to internship or post-secondary vocational/technical training in a trade or craft that is relevant to the internship; GPA of 3.0 or better; prefer a college student in the junior or senior year of the relevant degree program; recent college undergraduate;

Experience: Completion of courses in relevant degree or vocational/technical program; relevant job or volunteer experience;

Or: Any equivalent combination education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the internship.

NOTE: Internships for academic credit are for current college students only.
