General Statement of Duties

Modified Process - VA DCJS LEO certification or equivalent for out of state applicants


Performs law enforcement duties in an assigned area during a specific period; assists in investigations of criminal offenses and in the apprehension of criminals; does related work as required.

Expected Salary Range $64,038 - $117,802.28.


The Henrico Police Division is seeking qualified applicants who are currently certified as a Law Enforcement Officers by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services or an equivalent certification for out of state applicants.  The following factors must be met for consideration:


Graduate of a Virginia DCJS certified police training academy or equivalent for out of state applicants.

Employed as a sworn officer, deputy, investigator, detective or sworn supervisor for a minimum of one year. 

Complete and successfully pass all levels of the police officer selection process.


Qualifying candidates must be in good standing with a transferring agency and have no pending investigations or disciplinary actions.


A starting salary above entry-level step 1 may be considered based on the qualifications of the applicant and needs of the Police Division at time of hire. All salary considerations will be on a case-by-case basis in conjunction with County of Henrico Department of Human Resources.

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Virginia by the date of hire. Must be a citizen of the United States. Requires a pre-employment physical examination and/or medical tests administered by Henrico County Employee Health Services, the components of which are based on and appropriate to the specific sensory and/or physical demands of the job.  Vision requirement is uncorrected vision greater than 20/100 (20/100 must correct to 20/40 in both eyes).


Per Police Division policy, tattoos and brandings on the scalp, face (front of a person's head from the forehead to chin), and the front of the neck are prohibited.  Exceptions to this policy may be made for cosmetic and hand tattoos, which will be examined on a case by case basis.


The Henrico County Police Division has a tobacco policy which states all sworn Police Officers shall refrain from smoking or the use of any tobacco products while on duty or off duty.


A full background investigation, including a criminal history record check and fingerprinting, is conducted on all persons who are selected to proceed to the background phase of the process.

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from high school; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
