General Statement of Duties

The purpose of an Division ESL Coordinator is to provide district-level support to teachers with instructional strategies and language instruction, and to support the implementation and alignment of district and state standards and federal requirements, support the transition of students in the schools and facilitate communication between teachers, school counselors, administrators, and parents to ensure English learner student success.

Essential Duties
  • Model best teaching practices and mentors new or struggling teachers.
  • Conducts building and classroom visits to assess needs and develop instructional skills and resources. 
  • Collaborate with curriculum teams to develop and refine instructional materials and resources.
  • Aligns instruction with district and state educational standards and goals.
  • Organize and lead professional development sessions for teachers.
  • Stay updated on the latest educational research and share insights with colleagues.
  • Analyze student performance data to identify trends to help drive instructional decisions
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
  • Facilitate effective communication between teachers, administrators, counselors and parents.
  • Support teachers in developing and maintaining effective classroom instructional strategies.
  • Support the HCPS Welcome Center to support students and family transition into schools
  • Work collaboratively with building level administrators and school counseling departments to ensure student success and the success of all school and district goals. 
  • Communicate effectively with students, LIEP and content teachers and administrators
  • Assist in coordination of ESL summer programing, including in the support of hiring staff, planning classrooms and schedules, preparing materials and assisting in curriculum development
Additional Information
  • This is a 11-month (239-day) position with a contractual start date of July 30, 2026. 
  • Salary will be prorated based on the official start date.

Minimum Requirements

  • A valid Virginia teaching license with ESL endorsement. 
  • Candidates must have extensive knowledge in content area(s), educational methodology and learning theory. 
  • Skills must include planning and organizing, curriculum design and integration, classroom management, communication, human relations, thinking and problem-solving.
