General Statement of Duties

Assists with planning, developing and promoting health and wellness education programming, individual and group fitness training, and wellness promotion to diverse audiences of both General Government and HCPS employees; develops, plans, organizes, and leads health education programs, wellness promotions, individual and group fitness classes and programs appropriate to the target audience and participants; performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

Henrico County's Employee Fitness and Wellness team is hiring a Fitness and Wellness Trainer to deliver fitness, wellness, and nutrition programming to Henrico County employees. You will lead classes, coach individuals, and design programs that help a workforce build healthier habits. This is hands-on wellness work with real, visible impact on the people who keep Henrico running.


Program Design and Coaching


  • Assess employee fitness levels, health history, and wellness goals, and monitor progress
  • Build workout routines that improve strength, endurance, mobility, and cardiovascular health
  • Lead on-site fitness classes and provide individual coaching
  • Demonstrate correct form and safe technique, with modifications for all skill levels


Health Education and Wellness


  • Teach workshops on nutrition, healthy eating, hydration, and sleep
  • Lead sessions on stress management, behavior change, and mindfulness
  • Promote county-wide wellness challenges and health incentives
  • Track participant data to measure the success of wellness initiatives


Facility and Team


  • Maintain clean, safe exercise equipment on-site
  • Keep the member management system up to date
  • Lead in-person fitness orientations
  • Collaborate with the team to align wellness goals with County culture


WHAT YOU BRING


  • Strong knowledge of behavior change, fitness protocols, and health education programming
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Sound computer skills for research, communications, and materials development
  • Physical condition sufficient to safely lead cardiovascular and strength training activities
Additional Information

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.

Valid driver's license to perform assigned duties at various locations.

Certifications in CPR and Basic First Aid required upon hire.

Certified Health Education Specialist, Wellness Coach, or Fitness Instructor preferred.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements

Four (4) year degree in health or physical education, exercise science, nutrition science or other relevant field; and previous experience as a Personal Trainer or other directly related experience preferred; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
