General Statement of Duties
This vacancy is open until filled. Performs skilled carpentry work involving repair and construction of buildings, furniture, and other related work. Cabinet making experience required. Performs under the general supervision of a foreman who inspects the completed work. Erects, installs and repairs all outdoor and indoor athletic and gymnasium equipment. Installs resilient floor tile and acoustical ceiling tile; performs minor painting, masonry and related building trades work as needed; supervises some skilled/unskilled workers as assigned and performs overtime work and other duties when required.
Constructs and repairs cabinets, desks, tables, and other office/school furniture
Constructs ADA furniture and equipment (seats, changing tables, swings, etc) for students
Conduct quarterly safety inspections (and additional when needed) of ADA furniture/equipment
Repairs doors and locks
Constructs and repairs screens
Builds forms for pouring concrete
Operates woodworking machinery
Constructs small buildings, sheds, and additions
Works with finishing materials and various products
Self-auditing practices in safety awareness and procedures
Daily attendance - regular attendance is required
Engaged and on task
Performs other duties as assigned
This vacancy is open until filled for the 2026-27SY working as a carpenter in the Department of Facilities. Minimum salary is $48,671.23 or based on promotion policy for internal candidates.

Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school, trade school or equivalent; three years of carpentry experience.
Considerable knowledge of the common practices, materials, tools, and terminology of the trade.
Ability to estimate time and materials; operate common woodworking machinery; rig and work from scaffolds; and lay out work for self and others.
Good physical condition required; must have a valid Virginia Operator's license.
