General Statement of Duties
Plans and supervises general recreational programs or assists in the development and administration of a specialized recreation program on a County-wide basis; does related work as required.
Good knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation and specifically of recreation fitness and wellness program planning and promotion in the assigned specialty area; good knowledge and understanding of the special needs and interests of the segment of the population served by the fitness and wellness department; ability to effectively plan, implement and coordinate the activities of fitness and wellness programs and classes and specialized recreation fitness and wellness programs; good organizational skills; skill in research and the ability to evaluate needs and to develop appropriate programming recommendations; some supervisory skill; ability to cooperate with and effectively work with public and private organizations and business, civic and volunteer groups and the general citizenry; ability to work on own initiative without close supervision or guidance; effective oral and written communications skills; ability to keep accurate records; ability to maintain budgetary controls.
- Primary work locations include Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, Deep Run Recreation Center, and additional indoor and outdoor sites as needed.
- Completes opening, rotational and closing procedures.
- Performs daily administrative tasks under the supervision of the Recreation Manager, Facility Manager, or Fitness Coordinator.
- Utilizes Recreation Management Software for program creation, scheduling, member communication, class attendance, and other relevant functions.
- Supports planning and implementation of community fitness and wellness programs, fitness center operations, and group fitness activities both onsite and county-wide.
- Assists with oversight and monitoring of the Fitness Center and Group Exercise Room.
- Assists with youth orientations (ages 13–15), equipment use monitoring, inquiries, registrations, facility tours, and fitness class instruction.
- Monitors adherence to posted rules and safety guidelines.
- Assists new, current, and potential members with fitness- and facility-related inquiries.
- Engages with patrons and provides assistance as needed.
- Supports equipment maintenance and cleanliness to ensure member safety.
- Operates AV equipment as needed.
- Manages equipment storage areas, including inventory and usage logs.
- Requires strong knowledge of fitness and wellness philosophies, with specific experience and credentials in personal training and/or group exercise instruction.
- Possesses strong knowledge of community recreation, program planning, and population-specific needs related to assigned program areas.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Possession of a bachelor's degree in recreation or a field directly related to the needs of the assigned position, and one (1) year of related work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
