General Statement of Duties
Supervises and performs complex electronic and instrumentation installation, maintenance, testing and repair work at the Water Treatment Plant or the Water Reclamation Facility; does related work as required.
Supervise & perform complex installations & maintenance, complex diagnostic troubleshooting & related repairs, & complex programming required for network & process specific pneumatic controls, electronics, instrumentation, integrated mechanical & motor controls & equipment, infrared technologies, VFD (Variable Frequency Drives), PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), Proportional-Integral-Derivative Controller (PID) & Millitronic controls to ensure the compatibility & reliability of components & consistency & efficiency in the treatment process.
The successful candidate will possess and/or have the ability to do the following:
- Analyzes, maintains, & calibrates the Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition System (SCADA).
- Work is performed both in the shop & the field as determined by the work assignment.
- Extensive knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, & equipment of the electronic & instrumentation trade;
- Extensive skill in the use & care of the tools, equipment & materials used in the work; thorough knowledge of the principles of electronics & instrumentation;
- Extensive knowledge of electricity including real & imaginary power management; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards of & safety precautions involved in electronic work;
- Ability to read & interpret typical electronic schematics; thorough knowledge of water &/or wastewater treatment principles & processes;
- Thorough knowledge of relevant PLC & instrument programming principles & concepts including higher math calculations;
- Ability to work independently with limited general supervision;
- Excellent critical thinking skills for solving work-related problems;
- Ability to create & maintain accurate paper & electronic records;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audience of County personnel & vendors;
- Ability to effectively train & supervise direct reports & to handle sensitive issues;
- Physical condition permits activities including but not limited to lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling & routinely working under adverse temperature &/or weather conditions & in confined workspaces & wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus as needed.
- Position may be required to work on-call assignments & be subject to call back for emergency repairs.
This position reports to the Water Reclamation Facility at 9101 WRVA Road.
Requires a valid driver's license & may require a current electrician's license.
May require a pre-employment &/or annual/regularly scheduled physical examination &/or medical tests administered by Henrico County Employee Health Services, the components of which are based on & appropriate to the specific sensory &/or physical demands of the given position.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Possession of a two-year degree in a relevant electronic or instrumentation field preferred, and experience: Five (5) years of relevant electronic and/or instrumentation experience in a water or wastewater treatment facility, including at least two (2) years in a lead or supervisory capacity; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
