General Statement of Duties
Henrico County Public Schools’ Advanced Career Education (ACE) programs prepares students for careers in both the public and private sectors through high-quality instruction, hands-on learning experiences, and apprenticeship opportunities across a broad range of building trades, criminal justice, and healthcare fields. These programs equip graduates with essential entry-level workforce skills while also providing pathways to industry licensure and certification upon successful completion.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and learning experiences that support students’ academic growth, critical thinking, and workforce development. The instructor will create an engaging, inclusive, and safe learning environment while aligning instruction with state standards, curriculum frameworks, and school goals. This role includes planning and implementing lessons, assessing student progress, providing feedback, and collaborating with colleagues, families, and the community.
Career & Technical Education Duties and Expectations
- Plans, delivers, and assesses instruction using a competency‑based education model.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, and industry trends.
- Maintains a working knowledge of current industry safety standards and ensures their incorporation into instruction.
- Supports and promotes student participation in internships and apprenticeships with local employers.
Instruction & Planning
- Develop and deliver daily lesson plans aligned with state and district standards.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Implement differentiated instruction, accommodations, and modifications to support all learners.
- Integrate technology and innovative practices into teaching to enhance student engagement.
Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior and learning.
- Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Manage classroom routines to ensure safety, orderliness, and instructional time
Assessment & Data Use
- Design formative and summative assessments to measure student learning.
- Analyze data to monitor progress, adjust instruction, and support student achievement.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and parents.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate regularly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in department meetings, team planning, and school initiatives.
- Collaborate with special education staff, counselors, and support personnel as needed.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend work daily and fulfill all assigned responsibilities.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to refine instructional practice.
- Maintain accurate records, including grades, attendance, and required documentation.
- Uphold all school and district policies, including professional and ethical standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This is a 11-month (239-day) position with a contractual start date of July 20, 2026.
- Salary will be prorated based on the official start date.

Minimum Requirements
- A VDOE Technical Professional Teaching License with an endorsement in the above-mentioned field is required.
- Candidates who hold a relevant state-approved credential and who have at least two years of full-time experience within the past five years, an applicable trade or profession are strongly encouraged to apply
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
