General Statement of Duties
Serves as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator; provides outreach and support to consumers; does related work as required.
- Provide outreach and support to mental health individuals receiving services.
- Link individuals to agency and community provider appointments.
- Assisting individuals with obtaining needed resources in the community.
- Serve as a recovery coach to individuals by sharing personal recovery story while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Co-facilitate agency education and support groups related to recovery including Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP).
- Assist individuals with participating in social and recreational outlets to further recovery goals.
- Participate in agency committees/work groups as needed.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with individuals.
- Knowledge of professional boundaries and mental health recovery model.
- Model and encourage development of a recovery-oriented lifestyle.
- Lived personal experience in their own recovery and willingness to share personal story to help others.
Registered Peer Recovery Specialist or successful completion of 72 hours in each of the four domains of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) CPRS Training Curriculum.
Successful completion of 500 hours of supervised hands-on experience relevant to the four CPPRS.
The salary for this role will be at the lower end of the listed pay scale.
Valid driver's license and a safe driving record to perform assigned duties at various locations Countywide.
Maybe be required to work a flexible or on-call schedule.
Requires maintaining current certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist by the Virginia Certification Board (VCB). Must maintain certification as Registered Peer Recovery Specialist with VA. Board of Counseling.
May require Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) Facilitator certification and Whole Health Action Management (WHAM) Facilitator certification.
TB screening; Child Protective Service check; A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a
conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee. This position may be underfilled as a Peer Recovery Trainee while working towards RPRS certification
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school with coursework or degree in a relevant field and previous relevant work experience i s preferred; OR, a ny equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
