General Statement of Duties
A Henrico Teacher Fellow is a highly effective classroom teacher who spends a portion of the workday teaching students and a portion working closely with first year and provisionally licensed teachers. This new position, created as a part of the Career Ladder, will support new and provisionally licensed teachers with lesson design and delivery, student engagement, co-teaching, and the day-to-day management of professional responsibilities. The teacher fellow’s classroom will serve as a learning lab that models researched-based instructional strategies for new teachers to observe in practice. In addition, Teacher Fellows will support PLCs and professional learning at their assigned schools. This 11-month position represents a new option for teacher leaders who are seeking unique professional opportunities and responsibilities while continuing to work directly with students in the classroom. The Teacher Fellow position is a part of the Professional Learning and Leadership Department.
A Teacher Fellow may teach up to two classes, or the equivalent, at a designated school, and will support building and division level professional learning in areas that include:
- Mentoring and supporting new and provisionally licensed teachers
- Supporting vacancy-related board substitutes and Annual Resident Educators
- Serving as a model classroom for peer/new teacher observation
- Co-teaching or modeling teaching specific strategies with teachers
- Facilitating and supporting Professional Learning Communities
- Facilitating professional learning courses for the school and division (Microcredentials)
- Projects a passion for learning and remaining current in educational best practices.
- Understands and applies the principles of adult learning in working with instructional staff.
- Develops meaningful and strong relationships with students, staff, and the school learning community.
- Designs and delivers effective and engaging learning experiences with students, and regularly assesses learning progress of students.
- Supports new and provisionally licensed teachers with lesson design, instructional strategies, classroom management, and the management of day to day professional responsibilities
- Models effective classroom instruction through both peer observations and co-teaching opportunities
- Supports the ongoing implementation of the HCPS Teaching and Learning Framework
- Fulfills the responsibilities of a classroom teacher
- Organizes and supports professional learning communities
- Facilitates monthly professional learning sessions for HCPS provisionally licensed teacher cohorts
- Supports New Teacher Academy and the HCPS Teacher Mentoring Program
- Supports school-based and district-wide professional learning in alignment with the school quality goals and the strategic goals of Journey 2030
- Assists with the development of professional learning activities, microcredentials, and specializations
- Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing
- Performs other duties as assigned
This position holds a 239-day contract.
The minimum annual salary is: $68,227 Bachelors, $71,502 Masters, $74,934 Doctoral

Minimum Requirements
- A valid, full-renewable, Virginia teaching license
- Minimum of five years of teaching experience.
- Extensive knowledge of research-based instructional practices, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, technology skills, and organizational skills
- Evidence of professional development experience and participation
- Evidence of supporting adult learners
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
