General Statement of Duties

This position repairs cracked ceramic tile and re-ties to walls in corridors and gymnasiums to place same in serviceable conditions; replaces broken and racked brick work in walls to prevent water seepage into plaster and wood trim, with resultant damage to both; repoints brick walls, joints in stone facings and parapet walls to prevent water seepage into ceiling, with resulting efflorescence of plaster.

Essential Duties

Installs ceramic title work in rest rooms, kitchens, locker rooms and corridors;

Erects brick and cinderblock walls for partitions, additions such as storerooms, recreational facilities, playground toilets, garbage can washrooms, and other small additions which can be constructed more economically than hiring a contractor;


Supervises establishment of grades, erection of forms and pouring of concrete;

Installs through-wall-flashing and membrane waterproofing of walls to make some watertight;

Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

This posting is open until filled for the 26-27SY working in the Department of Facilities as a Brick Mason/Tile Setter.  Base hourly rate is $23.40 ($48,671.23 annually).  Salary negotiable based on experience or HCPS promotion policy for internal candidates.  (Note:  This salary will be prorated based on the official start date.)

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from high school, three years experience as a tile setter and/or brickmason;

Considerable knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology of the bricklaying and cement finishing trade;

Good physical condition required, ability to work around dust and other debris and must have a valid Virginia Operator's license.
