General Statement of Duties
Install, replace or repair locks, door closers, hinges, etc., as required for the accomplishment of maintenance, modification, or renovation of school facilities.
Performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the repair and maintenance of mechanical and electronic locking devices
- Experience in electronic access control technology including keypads, card readers and related software
- Installs new locks and rekeys existing locks
- Repairs/ replaces door closures
- Installs and repairs “panic” hardware on doors
- Repairs locks on doors, filing cabinets and desks
- Cuts new keys and duplicates keys for locks
- Maintains accurate log of key codes
- Gains entry into locked facilities when keys have been misplaced or locks have been broken
- Works with maintenance workers, school officials and staff to resolve lock maintenance and security issues
- Working knowledge of fire and building codes that relate to egress and accessibility
- Repairs vandalism damage to door hardware
- Assists in the maintenance of building security
- Attends work daily and be engaged in job responsibilities - regular attendance is required
- Performs overtime and other duties as required
This vacancy is open until filled and is available for the 26-27SY beginning on July 1, 2026. This is a 12 month, 8 hours per day, 260 day position. Minimum salary is $48,671.23 ($23.40 hourly) or based on promotion policy for internal candidates. Salary is prorated based on official start date.

Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or trade school with three years’ experience in the trade. Possession of a valid operator’s license issued by the State of Virginia required. Extensive knowledge of the methods and procedures utilized in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of locks and security closures. Experience with installation and maintenance of electronic door systems. Ability to do minor painting, masonry in support of locksmith activities
