General Statement of Duties
Under the direction of the Principal, this role is to assist the kindergarten teacher in implementing the instructional program. The instructional assistant would provide individual and small group reinforcement of learning concepts. This position works no more than 29 hours per week. The hours are determined at the school based on the kindergarten schedule.
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce learning concepts.
- Help manage classroom transitions and provide small-group support to students.
- Support positive behavior interventions and classroom management strategies.
- Help prepare, organize, and maintain instructional materials and classroom learning centers.
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the lead teacher.
- Assist with the implementation of foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional lessons.
- Utilize instructional technology and classroom tools as directed by the teacher.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
- Assist with classroom assessments, screenings, and documentation as directed.
- Perform job duties specific to the school location and the needs of the kindergarten program.
- Regular attendance required
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is for 2026-27
$19.36 per hour

Minimum Requirements
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classrooms; ability to maintain records and confidentiality; ability to operate audio visual, standard office and computer equipment; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and administrators. Must be able to follow oral and written directions, maintain order within a classroom independent of the teacher, and possess a working knowledge of computers.
Must be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and
Passing score - 455 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment (HCPS website for testing information), or a minimum of 42 credit hours from an accredited college/university.
Paraprofessional autism certification is required or must be completed within 60-days of hire. This training is provided by HCPS at no cost to the employee.
