General Statement of Duties
Responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based visual arts instruction to students in a public separate program. This role fosters creativity, critical thinking, and artistic skill development while promoting an appreciation of diverse artistic traditions and cultural expression. The Art Teacher creates a supportive classroom environment that encourages student exploration and growth.
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state and district art education standards
- Teach a variety of artistic techniques, media, and art history concepts
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities
- Integrate cross-curricular connections where appropriate
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and organized classroom environment
- Manage art supplies, tools, and equipment responsibly
- Enforce school and district policies related to student behavior and safety
- Assess student progress through projects, portfolios, and participation
- Provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate grading records
- Use assessments to inform and adapt instructional strategies
- Encourage creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking
- Support students’ social and emotional development through artistic activities
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and guardians regarding progress
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and staff to support student success
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events
- Other duties as assigned
- Regular attendance is required
This position works 191 days per year, 3.75 hours per day. The minium hourly rate with a bachelor's degree is $33.98.

Minimum Requirements
Demonstrates accurate knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices. Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Visual Arts. A Master's degree in Art and experience working with diverse student populations preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
