General Statement of Duties

To provide students, faculty and staff support in navigating evidenced based practices, strategies, and tools necessary to effect positive behavior change in students; by providing supportive interventions to students and the school. To explicitly teach and support students with positive behavioral supports and interventions appropriate based on students' need, classroom environments, and school climate. The student support interventionist would be charged with working collaboratively with faculty and staff to support proactive and preventative efforts to student discipline.

Essential Duties

The individual should have the ability to develop and implement positive behavior supports. Knowledge of adolescent social-emotional development, including an understanding of mental health diagnoses and trauma and how this impacts academic performance. The ability to develop and use techniques for dealing with youth who exhibit inappropriate behavior. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop effective behavioral intervention for a diverse group of individuals from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

    Administers support for students with behavioral or emotional challenges for the purpose of improved function in the school environment.

    Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable about program guidelines.

    Develops, explains, and enforces behavioral requirements with students.

    Assists the school in maintaining a learning environment and atmosphere conducive to safe, orderly, and effective instruction.

    Maintains both physical and social-emotional safety of students and acts as a positive role model.

    Assists with implementing strategies that have been proven to de-escalate students.

    Collaborates with administration, school security officers and RESET facilitators to develop and maintain a clear and consistent process for maintaining students in their natural instructional environment prior to the need to remove students from the classroom.

    Assists administrators in collecting data on office referrals, minor and major infractions, etc.

    Participates in intervention team, child find meetings, IEP meetings, and disciplinary hearings (as applicable; but not as an administrator's designee.

    Participates in applicable meetings to offer additional insight into interventions and supports needed for student success.

    Assists with implementation of school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

    Responsible for the coordination of Restorative Practices and maintains required training to be the school leader in that area.

    Implements Check in/Check out with students and provides support to staff to be able to do the same.

    Collects data to monitor students' progress related to Behavior Support Plans, Behavior intervention plans, and targeted counseling goals developed by the Social Emotional Support Services team (as applicable).

    Develops, implements, and monitors Student Goal Contracts.

    Supports the creation of a classroom culture and environment that develops and nurtures the social-emotional growth of students.

    Maintains accurate, complete, and correct progress monitoring data and other written records.

    Attends required relevant professional learning

    Communicates effectively with students, parents, and school personnel.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

Attends work daily and is on task - regular attendance is required

The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.


Additional Information

This vacancy is open until filled and is available for the 26-27SY.  This is a 10 month, 8 hours per day, 209 day position.  Minimum salary is $59,663.21 ($35.68 hourly) or based on promotion policy for internal candidates.  Salary is prorated based on official start date.

Minimum Requirements

    Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in an educational subject area is required.

    A Virginia teaching license and/or counseling experience preferred.

    License in Applied Behavior Analysis preferred

    A minimum of 3 years of successful experience working with K-12 students to establish school related- appropriate behavior or comparable work-related experience is required.

    Teaching experience and/or counseling experience preferred.

    Knowledge of adolescent social-emotional development preferred.

    Behavior management skills are essential. Completion of Behavior Technician Course or comparable certification required.

     Excellent written and oral communication skills are needed.
