General Statement of Duties

Performs day-to-day maintenance, preventive maintenance and general repairs for all motorized equipment used in the assigned department's operations; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

Responsible for receiving new vehicles into the Division's fleet, preparing those vehicles to be placed into service.  Delivers Division vehicles to Maintenance and repair facilities, detailing the scope and nature of repairs, verifying the completion and adequacy of repairs, and the decommissioning of Division vehicles.  Sorts and stocks equipment supplied in police vehicles. Picks up, stores and disposes of confidential and sensitive police paperwork, documents and files.  Delivers mail, correspondence, supplies and equipment to various sections, departments and facilities within the Police Division.  This position is responsible for the care, maintenance, basic installation of equipment, and delivery of all police vehicles.

This position will take direction primarily from the Fleet Manager, and occasionally from the Fleet Commander. Must possess the ability to reason logically and address issues in dealing with county vendors; ability to reach successful resolutions of issues involving Division vehicle care, maintenance and operation.

Ensures that all Division equipment receives all appropriate maintenance, performs vehicle inspections as required, performs routine maintenance to vehicles, and ensures that equipment used is properly maintained.

Must be able to positively and appropriately represent the Police Division in all interactions with the other County agencies, the community and other stakeholders relevant to assigned unit.

Requires ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.

Additional Information

The expected hiring range for this position is $44,314.67 - $52,217.47.

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.

Requires possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Graduation from high school or GED, and experience: Three (3) years of related work experience in the maintenance and repair of internal combustion engines and equipment; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
