General Statement of Duties
Assists in carrying out programs for persons with intellectual disabilities or chronically mentally ill clients; does related work as required.
This hourly position is a great launching point for learning the work of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and helping to enhance the lives of others. Many staff have been hired on a full-time basis after starting in this position. This is a great job for those who are retired but want to have something meaningful to do up to 29 hours per week Monday - Friday 9 am to 3 pm. Hours may vary but would generally be Monday through Friday between 9 and 3 up to 29 hours per week. We are hiring for our Henrico location and our Charles City location but will accept if you are interested in only one site. This job is to work with individuals on activities within the program site and in the community including arts and crafts, exercising, daily living skills, personal care, and other skills as defined by their individual plans. Daily documentation/notes will be required. Training and guidance will be provided; experience or exposure to individuals with disabilities is preferred.
- Provides supervision and assistance to clients in basic self-help skills
- Assesses clients' skills and abilities using established procedures.
- Supports clients during community integration activities.
- Provides transportation to and from activities.
- Completes required documentation including daily logs, support records, incident reports, and individual plans.
- Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
- May maintain client charts and oversee petty cash and money management activities.
- May perform routine clerical tasks such as typing, filing, and answering phones.
- May perform quality control tasks in workshop settings.
- Performs other duties as assigned
TB screening; Child Protective Service; A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license.
May require a pre-employment and/or annual physical examination and/or medical tests administered by Henrico County Employee Health Services, the components of which are based on and appropriate to the specific sensory and/or physical demands of the given position, or on standards established by the State of Virginia.
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school and one (1) year of human services experience, preferably in working with persons with disabilities; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
