General Statement of Duties

Provides a variety of treatment and/or prevention services to clients with a wide range of psychiatric, emotional, relational, substance abuse or social problems; may provide consultation and education services to specific populations; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

Assist persons with mental illness with their recovery. Provide case management, treatment, rehabilitation, and support in the community. May lead family mutual support groups, provide case or program consultation to other agencies or community groups. Prepares written treatment and case management plans. Visits clients at home to conduct assessment, provide treatment, and if appropriate, motivate them to come into agency for services. Provides a variety of treatment and/or prevention services to clients with a wide range of psychiatric, emotional, relational, substance abuse or social problems on CM&A Team; may provide consultation and education services to specific populations; does related work as required. Conducts client assessments through psychological evaluation, social history, and interviews. 

  • Administers and interprets psychological assessments including intelligence and personality tests; prepares related reports. 
  • Provides individual, group, family, and couples therapy. 
  • Develops written treatment plans and establishes diagnoses. 
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with agency standards. 
  • Conducts collateral contacts with families and community caregivers. 
  • Refers clients to appropriate community resources based on treatment plans. 
  • May carry a full caseload without supervisory responsibilities.
  • Delivers educational presentations and represents the agency at community and professional events. 
  • Provides consultation and education services to external organizations. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with local agencies and stakeholders. 
  • Expands professional knowledge through academic study, independent reading, and participation in conferences and workshops.   
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Additional Information

Experience and/or interest in providing vocational support to consumers with serious mental illness is preferred.

Position is part of a Career Development Program where employee is able to advance within position.  Reimbursement for license and certifications available. 

The expected salary will be at the low to mid-range of the listed pay scale.

Position requires some evening, weekend, and holiday work and on-call coverage on a rotation schedule. Valid Virginia driver's license required. TB Screening and Child Protective Registry Check required, upon hire.

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.

Must hold or be qualified to work toward licensure or accreditation for the appropriate discipline. The ideal candidate will be licensed or licensed eligible.  We will consider strong candidates who are currently registered as QMHP if not licensed or licensed eligible.

This agreement and the continuation of this position are contingent upon the availability of specific special revenue funds.

Minimum Requirements

Possession of a two (2)-year master's degree in clinical social work, psychology or a directly related field plus one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting [for a one-year degree, one (1) additional year of experience or an internship is required to replace the second year of formal training]; OR, a bachelor's degree in related field plus four (4) years of experience in a community mental health setting; OR, any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
