General Statement of Duties

Assists the Coordinator of Healthcare and Patient Services with initial and ongoing training and staff development efforts, scheduling and schedule management, quality assurance and improvement efforts, inventory and equipment management, monitoring program performance, or in implementing program enhancements/changes; serves as a trainer, mentor and preceptor to Medical Transport Technicians (MTT); performs MTT duties as needed; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

Operations – BLS Ambulance Program – Lead Part-Time MTT


Operations – BLS Ambulance Program is currently seeking interest from part-time medical transport technicians to fill the positions of Lead MTTs.  These positions are part-time and Lead MTTs will only be allowed to work up to 29 hours a week.


Operations – Lead Part-Time Medical Transport Technicians

  • Assists the Coordinator of Healthcare and the BLS Ambulance Program Manager with initial and ongoing training and staff development efforts.
  • Assist with scheduling and schedule management.
  • Ensure personnel compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure personnel compliance with vehicle maintenance, EMS equipment checks, lost/damaged equipment, etc.
  • Assist with the orientation, preception, and continued training programs for new and incumbent employees.
  • Assists with quality assurance and improvement efforts related to the program and staff including patient care, protocols, psychomotor skills, documentation, initial and ongoing training, and education of MTTs.
  • Monitor program performance, when implementing program enhancements/changes; serve as a trainer, mentor, and preceptor to Medical Transport Technicians.
  • Performs MTT duties as needed. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The Lead Medical Transport Technician positions are open to current part-time and external candidates Medical Transport Technicians for the Division of Fire.

Additional Information

  • Proof of highest level of education completed (copy of transcripts or diploma for high school, GED, or college.) 
  • Current Department of Motor Vehicles driving record 
  • Form DD214 for Veterans or NGB-22 for National Guard 


Must meet all the personnel and licensure requirements as specified in the Code of Virginia and Virginia Administrative Code governing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for civilian non-sworn non-emergency transport personnel.

Be at least 18 years of age and a legal U.S. resident by the employee's first day of employment.

Must hold a current EMT certification from the Virginia Department of Health Office of Emergency Medical Services

Must hold a current CPR certification from an Office of EMS approved cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course

Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record to perform assigned duties at various locations Countywide. 


May be required to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekend or holidays. Successful candidates must not convicted of or found guilty of any crime, offense or regulatory violation, or participated in any other prohibited conduct identified in state EMS regulations. A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.


This position requires a pre-employment physical examination and/or medical tests administered by Henrico County Employee Health Services, components of which are based on and appropriate to the specific sensory and/or physical demands of the job. 


This position has a vision requirement is uncorrected vision greater than 20/100 (20/100 must correct to 20/40 in both eyes).

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from high school or GED and current EMT certification and four (4) years of previous relevant EMT or medical transport work experience preferred; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
