General Statement of Duties
Performs independent clerical and administrative duties in the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality; demonstrates sound understanding of court operations, applicable laws, regulations, and procedures; provides courteous, informed service to a diverse public, defendants, attorneys, and stakeholders; works with minimal supervision and performs other duties as assigned.
- Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures governing the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office; working knowledge of court organization, functions, jurisdiction, and authority; knowledge of modern office practices and account-keeping principles; ability to make accurate decisions based on laws, regulations, and office procedures; ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Proficient with standard business software, proprietary court systems, and office equipment; performs arithmetic computations quickly and accurately; types accurately.
- Communicates clearly and courteously, both verbally and in writing; provides professional service to a diverse public; explains payment plans and procedures in non-technical language; builds
- effective working relationships with colleagues, attorneys, and judges.
- Understands and follows complex instructions and policies; makes sound decisions independently within established laws and procedures; organizes work to meet deadlines.
- Non-supervisory; works independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team; may provide guidance to less experienced staff during cross-training. Typically works in an office setting; may work in various locations based on operational needs and cross-training.
- Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to perform assigned duties; physical ability to perform routine office tasks including sitting, standing, typing, filing, and handling records and light materials.
Serves as a Deputy Clerk in the Civil Division. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting customers in person, via phone, and via email
- Receipting and processing new cases
- Receiving and processing pleadings and court orders
- Opening and distributing mail
- Indexing, scanning, and verification of documents
Duties may also include:
- Composing written correspondence in response to requests from other agencies
- Updating the automated case management system with case dispositions
- Performing a myriad of other duties and/or special projects as necessary

The expected hiring range will be at the lower end of the listed pay scale.

Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED; four (4) year degree preferred; and four (4) years of responsible clerical experience, preferably in the Court system or the legal field; or some work experience in the Court system or the legal field with four year degree; OR: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
