General Statement of Duties

CodeRVA Regional High School seeks a passionate, highly qualified, experienced, professional school counselor to provide direct professional, educational, career and general developmental counseling services to students.  Our highly innovative instructional model will require a flexible educator willing to build individual relationships with a diverse student body with a range of learning needs.  

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the counseling/guidance theory and practice. 
  • Counseling skills must include problem identification/analysis skills and basic, solution-focused therapy resolution. 
  • Communication skills, both oral and written, must be highly developed to meet the diverse needs of students, professional staff, school division partners and other community agencies. 



Essential Duties
    • Counsels students on personal problems, careers, peer relationships, and attendance
    • Conducts small and large group guidance sessions
    • Participates regularly in Multi-Tiered System of Supports meetings and coordinates individual action plans for students
    • Serves as a designed mentor for students in Virtual Virginia classes
    • Administers standardized testing (both state and national) sessions
    • Coordinates teacher and parent conferences as needed
    • Interprets test data and student records for parents, teachers, and community college personnel
    • Participates in Child Study/Find meetings
    • Maintains order within the instructional setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding student behavior management
    • Supervises students in non-instructional time (before school, after school, student activities, fire drills).
    • Communicates regularly and effectively with parents
    • Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes and local policies, regulations and guidelines related to public schools
    • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence
    • Performs other duties as established by School Board Policy
    • Performs other duties as needed
Additional Information
    • Compensation ranges included in this posting are based on the 2025–2026 pay scales and are subject to a projected 3% increase for the upcoming school year.
    • This position is for the 2026–2027 school year, with a contractual start date of July 1, 2026.
    • This position works 11 months or 239 days per contract year.
    • Annual salary will be prorated based upon the work begin date

Minimum Requirements

      • Post-graduate certification/licensure/endorsement in secondary school counseling by the Virginia Department of Education. 
      • High school counseling experience is preferred
      • Prior experience working with students of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds is preferred.  
      • The ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
