General Statement of Duties
The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school and related activities. This role ensures the safety of all passengers, maintains an orderly environment on the bus, and strictly adheres to all traffic laws, district policies, and state/federal transportation regulations.
- Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes and schedules.
- Pick up and drop off students at designated locations.
- Ensure all students follow safety guidelines while boarding, riding, and exiting the bus.
- Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the bus, reporting any mechanical concerns promptly.
- Maintain safe driving practices in all weather and traffic conditions.
- Follow all state and federal laws, as well as school district policies related to student transportation.
- Maintain accurate records including route information, mileage logs, and incident reports.
- Report emergencies, accidents, or unsafe conditions immediately to the appropriate personnel.
- Keep the bus clean and in safe operating condition.
- Ensure emergency equipment (first‑aid kit, communication devices, etc.) is functional and accessible.
- Notify maintenance staff of any repairs needed.
- Regular attendance is required
Substitute Bus Driver salary - $25.49 per hour - 29 hours per week maximum - no benefits

Minimum Requirements
Candidates must be at least 21 and hold or obtain through HCPS a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. Must maintain license and a clean driving record free of major violations. The position requires the ability to pass a DOT physical examination, drug screening, and background check, as well as the ability to read maps, follow routing instructions, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
Strong interpersonal skills, reliability, and sound judgment are essential to the role. While not required, prior experience operating commercial or school vehicles, CPR/First Aid certification, and experience working with children are preferred qualifications.
Must be able to climb, bend, reach and sit for prolonged periods and lif up to 50 points when necessary.
